Time to say ‘Gracias’

by Roxana S. on November 26, 2009

in Books

As I mentioned over at SpanglishBaby today, now that my three-year-old daughter is able to kind of understand the meaning of Thanksgiving, we’ve been talking about it a lot.
Since she is a big book-lover, I was very thankful when we received Pat Mora’s latest book, “Gracias/Thanks” last week because it instantly became a great way [...]

Endless topics of conversation

by Roxana S. on November 20, 2009

in Games

Recently, I wrote about ways to enrich your bilingual child’s vocabulary over at our sister site, SpanglishBaby, and one of the tips was to try to make everything into a topic of conversation. Coincidentally, the same day, I got the product pictured above which is a table game about exactly that: questions – from the [...]

Now I know my ABC’s

by Roxana S. on November 12, 2009

in Books

It’s all about the ABC’s for my daughter these days and nothing could be more luring than a set of colorful and sturdy cards with both the English and Spanish alphabet all packed into a nifty red box that begs to be opened. Another very cool product from Bilingual Readers.
The Easy Alphabet!/¡Abecedario Fácil! is a [...]

I don’t know of any preschooler who is not totally into Dora the Explorer, do you? And, if you’re raising bilingual children, she’s the perfect character to support you along the way because, let’s face it, preschoolers think she is cool!
My daughter has the lunchbox and the plastic cups and the coloring books and the [...]

Los Lobos Goes Disney

by Roxana S. on October 27, 2009

in Music

I‘m sure it’s happened to you. You’re happily minding your own business and out of nowhere you start belting out the theme song from the latest movie/TV show your kids are currently addicted to. Well, you’ll be happy to know that if it happens to be a Disney movie, you can now sing to the [...]

Let the animals come to life

Have you heard of something called Scanimation? It’s a pretty cool technique which makes the images of this book, ¡Al Galope!, seem as if they’re moving. Artist, inventor, filmmaker, Rufus Butler Seder, came up with this animation process described as “video without a screen.”
Translated from the #1 New York Times bestseller children’s book, Gallop!, the [...]

I swore I wouldn’t be one of those moms who started her baby’s memory book with fervor and wrote something on it every single day from the moment she was born only to stop doing it abruptly after about her second birthday. But, I have to fess up: that’s exactly what has happened.
However, because I [...]

Since we launched SpanglishBabyFinds almost two months ago (wow! Where has time gone?) we’ve introduced you to a bunch of products we love and use–or would use–with our own children. Well, it’s time for something for us, las mamás, don’t you think?
And, since you know how much I love reading, then you shouldn’t be surprised [...]

Everybody was raving about my newborn son at a recent family + friend’s get-together – and it wasn’t only because some were meeting him for the very first time. The main reason is that he is PRECIOSO (ok, I’m a little biased ) and now he has the clothes for all the [...]

Have Fun Learning Spanish

by Roxana S. on October 2, 2009

in Music, Videos

Iwas pleasantly surprised by award-winning Whistlefritz‘ Spanish for Beginners DVD + CD series because I expected my 3-year-old daughter, whose first language is Spanish, to be a bit bored with it. I was wrong.
Vanessa actually loved Adentro y Afuera’s DVD’s main character, Fritzi, a cute little mouse used throughout the program to teach children [...]
